In education especially, there are an insurmountable number of obstacles when it comes to policies, politics, and resources. It is no doubt a challenging field to be in right now. I have heard the heartbreak countless times from many fellow colleagues and teachers who feel they no longer are able to truly teach or counsel students in the way they need because of all these challenges. It breaks my heart. We CANNOT play the "don't blame me" game. Who truly suffers from that? Our students. The reason we are here. We have to fight the good fight…for them.

$21,548 was spent per capita within the Illinois incarceration system. In contrast, the average operating expense per pupil within Illinois public schools was $11,841.53, with a total per capita expense of $12,867 (this includes local, state, and federal funding).

Fall is my favorite time of year. For me, it’s the beauty the season brings, with bright colors and the crisp air on a morning run. Fall means college football Saturdays and trips to the apple orchard for cider, cinnamon donuts, and colorful gourds for my front porch. The change in season gives me permission to get a Starbuck’s pumpkin spice latte every chance I get and pick up that first new fall sweater I’ve been eyeing at my favorite store. And I certainly cannot forget to mention all the time spent in my yard with family getting those last projects finished before winter sets in.

NACAC’s Annual Conference included the approval of several changes to the Statement of Principles of Good Practice (SPGP). These changes include language related to commission-based agents, housing and the infamous application "creep." Todd Rinehart, chair of the national Admission Practices Committee, wrote an article outlining these changes in the most recent edition of NACAC’s Bulletin.
