#FirstGenOfficeHour Tweet Chat
By Traci Flowers, Loyola Academy; Dan Gin, Niles West High School; and Luke Kerber, Aurora University
Inclusion, Access & Success Committee Co-Chairs
Every first Thursday of the month I’m First hosts a tweet chat inviting first-generation college students, those who aspire to be, and everyone who cares about first-gens, to meet them on Twitter to ask questions and share answers on important topics using hashtag: #FirstGenOfficeHour.
Last month’s discussion broke down types of specialized schools such as HBCUs, HSIs, women’s colleges, military schools and religion-based institutions.
For high school students, this means learning about these specialized schools and seeing if this type of school is a good fit for you!
Who
Staff from I’m First, first-gen student bloggers, first-generation college-bound students, their parents, counselors, college access providers, and mentors, and colleges.
When
Every first Thursday of the month at 6:00 PM CST / 7:00 PM EST. The next one will be on December 4.
How to Participate
On December 4 at 6:00 PM Central time, log on to Twitter and follow @ImFirstGen and hashtag #FirstGenOfficeHour! To ask a question or share an answer, add #FirstGenOfficeHour to your tweet!
Future IAS Tweet Chats
The Inclusion, Access and Success Committee would also like to continue offering tweet chats for our members in the future. Please let us know if you have a special topic you would like to see discussed in an upcoming twitter chat, as we hope to heighten awareness, consciousness and sensitivity to the issues of culture, race, citizenship status, sexual orientation, gender, age and other differences as they pertain to post-secondary access.
